The research assigned safety scores from 0 to 100, with lower scores representing higher safety levels. Singapore’s outstanding performance was largely attributed to its minimal risk of natural disasters and its second-lowest health and infrastructure risks. The city’s renowned healthcare system, known for its efficiency and quality, played a significant role in its high safety rating. Additionally, Singapore’s robust infrastructure contributed to its top position.
Beyond overall safety, Singapore also excelled in digital security. The study evaluated digital security risks based on the ability to use the internet without fear of online threats or privacy breaches. Singapore ranked second in this category, reflecting its strong measures to protect online users and maintain digital privacy.
Following Singapore, the study identified Tokyo and Toronto as the next safest cities for travelers. Tokyo’s top ranking in health security highlights the city’s excellent healthcare services, while its fifth-lowest infrastructure security risk further supports its status as a safe destination. Toronto also impressed with its overall safety and strong infrastructure.
The study’s top ten list of safest cities (World’s Safest Cities) includes a diverse array of locations. Alongside Singapore, Tokyo, and Toronto, other safe cities featured are Sydney, Zurich, Copenhagen, Seoul, Osaka, Melbourne, and Amsterdam. Notably, Japan and Australia each had two cities in the top ten, showcasing their commitment to safety and quality of life.
Conversely, the study also highlighted the riskiest cities for travelers. Caracas, Venezuela, emerged as the least safe city with a score of 100 points, reflecting severe issues with health security, crime, and infrastructure. The US State Department’s advisory on Venezuela warns of crime, civil unrest, and poor healthcare, marking it as a high-risk destination. Karachi, Pakistan, followed as the second riskiest city, with significant personal security risks and ongoing violence. Yangon in Myanmar, Lagos in Nigeria, Manila in the Philippines, and Dhaka in Bangladesh rounded out the list of the most unsafe cities.
